1880s Three Piece Suit with Open Jacket

Patterns: Truly Victorian 261 for  the skirt. My own drafting for the jacket and vest.
Fabrics: Brown is a cotton serge, medium weight. The skirt and vest are a gold/tan/cream brocade in stripes.

Garment Measurements:
Chest: 40"
Waist: 30"
Hip: <50"
Hem: 40" at front

This is a simple dress comprised of separates. Too often, we pigeon-hole historical fashion as being matchy-matchy in everything from the hat to the shoes. Victorian women did buy things "off the rack", and they did wear separates that could be mixed and matched.

Here I have done a matching skirt and vest with a separate open jacket. The skirt and vest are a luxuriously smooth brocade done in stripes of tan, gold, and cream.

The vest is fully interfaced in twill and fully lined in light blue polyester lining.

The jacket is open in the front with no closure. Fully interfaced and lining in cream colored silky. The fronts and cuffs are trimmed with brown cotton embroidered lace.

The buttons on the vest are real coconut shell, 1" wide. I love these buttons! They're highly polished too.
